INSIDE
THE BOAT
creature comfort and a touch of luxury !
S/Y
Rhythm Stick was built not only as rigid,
reliable and fast offshore racer/cruiser, X-Yachts
of Denmark also gave her all it needs to make you
comfortable when you are at sea or berthed along
side in the marina. We have added equipment to
give her a touch of luxury!
Our boat is fitted with climate control that either
heats or cools the interior to selected temperature. In addition the
reverse cycle air conditioning can be used in dehumidifying mode to keep
the cabin dry. We have mounted fans in all cabins to ensure circulation
and cooling. So no sweat !
Our 6kW Fisher-Panda Generator provides us with 230
Volts AC/DC when offshore and charges all house and engine batteries,
should we be sailing and not motoring. This enables us to operate air
con and other devices as dive compressor and our Spectra
Water Maker, to top up the tanks with high quality pure fresh
water. We can produce around 24 liters of fresh water / hour by extracting
water from the surrounding sea and filtering under high pressure through
a series of membranes that remove all minerals and contamination, if
any. The saloon easily
sits up to eight people or can be converted into a very
comfortable bunk that sleeps two people by lowering the
table and covering with cushions. Now you can lean back,
watch a DVD or watch our progress in real time via the
LCD flat panel that is connected to the onboard navigation
system as well as our entertainment center. In addition
to several hundred DVDs we carry a selection of thousands
of songs in our MP3 library. Of course it's equally Ok
to grab a book from our sailing library or just lay back
and relax
The Galley is
located to starboard in the saloon, with two separate wash
basins and hot/cold fresh water as well as an independent
sea water tap to conserve water when sailing offshore.
Besides cooking up international and local cuisine to keep
the hungry crew happy, the gas stove can also be used to
bake up a surprise every now and then. To the right we
have a spacious refrigerator powered by a 12V compressor
and a small deep freezing compartment.
A Chart Table is also fitted into the starboard side
of the saloon. Important controls for all our systems
are located on the switch panel and Navigation
Equipment can be accessed via the panel at
the Nav. Station. We are equipped with the latest electronic
navigation aids, supplied by Raymarine. The system
comprises color chart plotter that based on C-Map
electronic charts and D-GPS (Differential
Global Positioning System) as well as Radar (with
MARPA target locking function). These systems are connected
to further sailing and navigation instruments located
at the helm station in the cockpit, that also includes
a further chart plotter connected via HSBC2 (High
Speed Bus). This enables us to not only to run the
boat via auto-pilot but also ensures
that any navigation data or information like wind angles,
speed, depth and even time to destination are available
at the push of a button on the various repeater units.
To facilitate route planning and communication we have connected a
Pentium4 PC to the system, which can retrieve real time position
and chart information and display this information on a 20 inch panel
in the saloon.
VHF Radio and SSB
Radio as well as Iridium
Satellite Telefon complete
our communication equipment. Connected
to our PC, we can send and receive
text emails anywhere in the world,
and give Mum or the stock broker a
call.
A Sony
Music library is mounted under
the Nav. Station. It either plays CDs
or MP3s from its own 10 GB hard disk
or taps into around 40 GB worth of
MP3 music titles that we have stored
on an external drive, via the PC. The
sound system features 3 way speakers
and a subwoofer in the saloon, but
can also be directed to speakers that
are located in the cockpit, to keep
the helmsman happy !
A Furuno Weather Fax system is mounted in the starboard
aft cabin and get's us weather updates and forecasts from regions of
interest. The fax can be set to transmit automatically on a daily schedule.
The best storm tactic is to stay out of it !
The forward (owners)
cabin comfortably sleeps two and is equipped
with it's own independent flat screen LCD and stereo
system with exciting surround sound. An emergency bunk
or settee is located on the starboard side of the cabin,
which also provides many hanging lockers and a cabinet
for storage.
For further comfort and privacy, the forward cabin has it's own hot and
cold shower and head system which can be switched to a holding tank if
the marina or environment requires this.
Two equally sized Aft Cabins can
sleep two each. If you don't already have a steady relationship - don't
worry ! Sharing a bunk will definitely bring you "closer" after 10 days
offshore !

A further head with hot/cold fresh water shower is
adjacent to the port aft cabin and entered through the saloon.
The
sound insulated engine room is located between the
two aft cabin and hosts our 50 bhp Yanmar engine and
the generator, which is capsuled in a sound proofed case behind the
main engine. Both machines run on diesel, the main engine consuming
an average of 5 liters per hour at cruising speed (around 7 knots),
the generator consuming a lean 2 liters / hour on average. With 300
liters of fuel in two separate tanks we have a range of around 420
nautical miles. On longer trips we bring up to ten additional 25 liter
drums of fuel, just in case there is not enough wind.
SAFETY GEAR
safety first !
Even though S/Y Rhythm Stick is equipped to the highest
standards and was recently scrutineered correct to the ISAF/ORC Special
Safety Regulations for Category 1 offshore races , we believe the best
way to handle our safety is to prevent needing the gear ! Here's what
we have anyway..

Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon
Last tested in October 2003, mounted close to exit from the saloon to
ensure easy access. When emerged in water, the device will start transmitting
on emergency frequency (406 mHz) so that rescuing vessels and/or airborne
rescuers can home in on our current position by tracing the radio signals
- Man-Over-Bord Emergency Button
.mounted at helm station connected to Raymarine GPS/chart plotter. When activated
alarm goes off and the current coordinates are marked on electronic chart to
guide the vessel and/or rescuers to position of accident . Our own boat can be
steered to this point by autopilot.
- Radar Reflector
To ensure other ships can see us we mounted this device on the radar
pole that is located at the stern |
